Funktion
Als Maß nennt Öhlins Innendurchmesser 50 mm, Schnurstärke 2 mm, Werkstoff NBR 70. Die Nut gibt die Verpressung vor; zu wenig dichtet nicht, zu viel zerstört den Ring. Beim Lagern altern Dichtungen; Öhlins gibt deshalb Chargen mit Datum aus. Eine gealterte Dichtung wird hart und verliert die Vorspannung an der Lippe.
Warum das Originalteil
Verschleiß zeigt sich zuerst an den Dichtflächen; Riefen dort bedeuten meist, dass mehr als eine Position fällig ist. Öhlins hält seine Fahrwerke über Einzelteile am Leben; deshalb lässt sich ein fünfzehn Jahre altes Federbein noch überholen statt ersetzen. Die Staubdichtung hält Schmutz ab, dichtet aber nicht gegen Öldruck. Der Wert eines Öhlins-Fahrwerks liegt in seiner Wartbarkeit — Ersatzteile gibt es für Baureihen, die längst aus dem Programm sind.
