DescriptionThe whole story▼
A thirty-litre tank, ShiftCam and the letters GS milled into the throttle housing. The JP CO BM018GS replaces the combined right-hand assembly on the largest bike in the range.
Key Features
- BMW R1250GS Adventure (2018–2023)
- Machined from a single block of Ergal 7075
- GS lettering milled into the housing
- Integrated right-hand switch block
- Black anodised
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
Range as a Design Principle
Everything about the Adventure follows from the fuel capacity. The tank sets the width, the width sets the wind protection, the weight sets the suspension. What emerges is a motorcycle that is enormous on a driveway and entirely reasonable at 130 km/h on a straight road in a country with no petrol stations for 300 kilometres.
A Badge That Is Not Decoration Here
On plenty of motorcycles a model designation milled into a component would be self-conscious. On a GS Adventure, which was designed around a discipline the letters actually name, it reads as part of the machine. The lettering is cut into the aluminium during machining, so it is the same depth as the rest of the shape.
Where the Original Fails
Nothing breaks on the standard assembly. The buttons simply lose their edge after enough seasons, and because they sit inside the throttle housing the whole component has to be renewed. Owners typically discover this when a mode button starts needing a second press somewhere inconvenient.
Black, and Only Black
This housing is offered in a single anodised finish. Given the amount of equipment a well-used Adventure carries on its handlebar, that is not a real restriction: black is what the surrounding hardware is, and the milled lettering provides whatever visual interest the component needs.
Where the Original Wears
The mode and menu buttons go first, because they are pressed most. Nothing fails outright; the action simply becomes indistinct, and the rider compensates by pressing harder without registering that they have started doing it.
Reversible Before a Sale
The standard assembly unbolts and can be refitted at any point. Owners who intend to sell the motorcycle on generally keep it, since a used GS with all its original parts available is an easier sale.
