A Sports Bike You Can Ride
Ducati took the 937 cc Testastretta, put it in a steel trellis with a full fairing and set the bars where a normal person could reach them. It is the most sensible sports motorcycle the company makes.
A Hundred and Thirteen Horsepower
Enough to be genuinely quick and not so much that the bike becomes a negotiation. Ducati aimed the SuperSport at riders who had owned superbikes and stopped enjoying them.
Adjustable Screen
The windscreen moves through fifty millimetres without tools. It is a small thing and it is the difference between a bike that works on a motorway and one that does not.
Throttle Assembly Only
The switch block is not part of this. It covers the housing alone, which is the appropriate purchase when the switchgear works and the moulded plastic is what needs attention.
Machined Bore
The tube turns in a bore that is cut rather than formed, which keeps the grip's feel consistent across years. Ride-by-wire means that consistency reaches the engine too.
Black Anodised
One finish, converted into the aluminium. Against red bodywork it is the option that stays out of the way, which is generally what a cockpit component should do.
Cut From Ergal
The 7075 grade at roughly double the yield strength of ordinary machined alloy. On a component clamped to a handlebar, the material determines whether it stays put.
Underrated at the Time
The SuperSport was reviewed politely and sold modestly, and the people who bought one tend to keep it. It is a considerably better motorcycle than its sales figures suggested.
