Xplor-Gabeln und eine flache Sitzbank
Die R erhält voll einstellbares WP-Fahrwerk mit langem Federweg, ein speichenbewehrtes 21-Zoll-Vorderrad und eine Sitzbank, die für Bewegung statt Komfort geformt ist. Es ist die Version, die von Fahrern gekauft wird, die irgendwohin wollen, wo keine Straße hinführt.
ABS nur hinten
KTM erlaubt es, das ABS allein am Hinterrad abzuschalten und vorn aktiv zu lassen, was genau die Einstellung ist, die ein versierter Offroad-Fahrer möchte. Sie wird am Lenker ausgewählt und auf gemischtem Untergrund ständig genutzt.
Ausgerichtete Klemmgeometrie
Die beiden Klemmschrauben sitzen auf einer Linie quer zum Lenker, was KTMs eigener Anordnung entspricht. Adventure-Fahrer wechseln Hauptbremszylinder seltener als Rennstreckenfahrer, daher ist das bei einem gebrauchten Exemplar die wahrscheinlichere Bohrung.
Stundenlang im Stehen
Die Ergonomie setzt die Fußrasten voraus, wodurch die Hand von oben an den Lenker kommt und sich ändert, welches Bedienelement natürlich unter den Daumen fällt. Die gefräste Abstufung zwischen den Elementen funktioniert aus diesem Winkel genauso gut wie im Sitzen.
Drei Oberflächen
Schwarz, Titanfarben und Orange, allesamt in die Oberfläche eingebracht statt aufgetragen. Jede wird bei Kontakt nur stumpf statt abzuplatzen, was bei einem wiederholt umfallenden Motorrad tatsächlich den Unterschied macht.
Staub vor Wasser
Feiner Schmutz ist zerstörerischer für Schaltelemente als Regen, weil er nicht abfließt. Gekapselte Elemente in einem einteilig gefrästen Gehäuse halten ihn fern, und es gibt nirgends eine Nahtstelle, über die er eindringen könnte.
Weit entfernt von einem Händler
Diese Motorräder werden dort gefahren, wo Bergung schwierig ist und Improvisation die einzige Alternative zur Zuverlässigkeit ist. Ein Bauteil, das kaum ausfällt, ist hier mehr wert als ein Ersatzteil im Gepäck.
