Bolts on a Single Axis
One of two arrangements, decided by the clamp on the master cylinder. Half a minute with the old block off the bar answers it definitively.
The Assembly Is the Part
Ducati sells no individual switch. On an 821 that has been through six winters, one hesitant function means the whole block whichever supplier it comes from.
Converted, Not Coated
Anodising is an electrolytic process that changes the aluminium itself. On a motorcycle that lives outdoors, that is the difference visible at the end of the first salted winter.
What Salt Does
Unlike rain it never dries out of a moulded joint. It sits against a terminal and works on it for several seasons before anything is noticed at the handlebar.
Two Fasteners
Plus one connector, and the job is finished. Nothing is cut, so the original assembly can be refitted before a sale in exactly the same twenty minutes.
A Tolerance That Holds
Machining produces the same dimension every time. Moulding tools wear across their life and the parts that come out late are measurably different from the early ones.
The One Most People Bought
The 821 outsold the 1200 comfortably because it was enough motorcycle for most riders. That pattern goes back to the original 600 and 900 being sold alongside each other.
Tuned for the Middle
A hundred and nine horsepower with the torque arriving low. Ducati has always known this model is ridden in traffic rather than at circuits and tuned it accordingly.
Steel, Deliberately
The trellis survived here long after Ducati's superbikes had abandoned frames entirely. It is heavier than aluminium and it is what a Monster is supposed to look like.
