Einundzwanzig-Zoll-Vorderrad
Die R-Version tauscht das 19-Zoll-Vorderrad des Standardmodells gegen ein 21-Zoll-Rad, ergänzt WP-Fahrwerk mit mehr Federweg und montiert echte Geländereifen. Daraus entsteht ein sehr großes Motorrad, das auf losem Untergrund wirklich geländetauglich ist – was damals fast nichts anderes in der Klasse war.
Offroad-Modus
KTM gab der R einen Fahrmodus, der die Leistung auf 100 PS begrenzt und ein erhebliches Maß an Hinterradschlupf erlaubt. Das klingt nach einem Marketing-Feature, verändert aber tatsächlich, wie sich das Motorrad auf Schotter verhält, weshalb Besitzer ihn ständig nutzen.
Stehend auf einer großen Reiseenduro
Die Ergonomie der R geht davon aus, dass der Fahrer wirklich Zeit auf den Fußrasten verbringt, und die Lenkerposition spiegelt das wider. Der Daumen erreicht das Tastenfeld von oben statt von hinten, und für einen sitzenden Fahrer ausgelegte Bedienelemente liegen in einem völlig anderen Winkel.
Gewicht trifft auf Boden
Eine vollgetankte 1190 Adventure R ist eine erhebliche Maschine zum Aufrichten, und sie fällt wie alles andere auf losem Untergrund im Schritttempo um. Lenkerende und der Schalter darauf schlagen früh auf, und massives Ergal verträgt das, wo eine geklipste Schale es nicht tut.
Staub und Wasser
Feiner Schmutz arbeitet sich in einen Kontakt ein und bleibt dort; Wasser läuft wenigstens ab. Abgedichtete Elemente in einem einteiligen gefrästen Gehäuse schließen beides aus, was bei einem nach jeder Trail-Etappe abgespritzten Motorrad die Eigenschaft ist, die tatsächlich zählt.
Universelle Klemmlöcher
Eine Adventure R trägt fast immer Handschutzbügel und oft eine andere Bremspumpe. Die Platte nimmt beide Schraubenanordnungen auf und hält den Cockpitaufbau flexibel, während das Motorrad über eine Saison hinweg eingerichtet wird.
Schwarz eloxiert
Eine einzige Ausführung, in die Oberfläche umgewandelt statt aufgetragen. Sie trübt bei Kontakt, statt abzusplittern – bei einem Motorrad, das mehr als einmal umfallen wird, das nützlichere Verhalten.
