Gezählt in Kreuzungen
Der Blinkerschalter auf einem Motorrad, das zur Arbeit gefahren wird, wird vielleicht vierzig Mal vor neun Uhr morgens betätigt. Nichts anderes am Motorrad kommt an diese Zahl heran, und nichts anderes versagt zuerst.
Beschriftungen unter UV-Licht
Ducati druckt seine Markierungen auf das Kunststoffgehäuse. Vier oder fünf Sommer direkte Sonne und Lederhandschuhe, und sie sind nur noch dekorativ statt informativ, lange bevor überhaupt etwas Elektrisches ausfällt.
Wärme von einem L-Zweizylinder
Der hintere Zylinder sitzt nah dran, und der Lenkerbereich durchläuft bei jeder Fahrt kalte Morgen und deutliche Wärme. Kunststoff setzt sich dadurch bleibend, ein gefrästes Aluminiumgehäuse nicht.
Ein zweiteiliges Gehäuse
Das Original ist in Halbschalen geformt, die durch Clips zusammengehalten werden. Diese lockern sich über die Jahre unter der Vibration eines großen Zweizylinders, und die entstehende Bewegung ist das, was Besitzern zuerst auffällt.
Eloxierung hat Tiefe
Die Schicht wird in Mikrometern gemessen und ist Teil des Metalls statt darauf zu liegen. Ein Kratzer geht in eine gefärbte Oberfläche hinein statt durch sie hindurch bis zum blanken Aluminium darunter.
In zwanzig Minuten zurück zum Original
Nichts wird durchtrennt, sodass sich der Serienblock vor einem Verkauf wieder montieren lässt. Bei einem Motorrad, das so oft gekauft und verkauft wird wie eine 821, zählt das mehr als bei einem Dauerbesitz.
In Bologna gebaut, überall verkauft
Die 821 war jahrelang Ducatis Volumenmodell und erreichte Käufer, die noch nie ein italienisches Motorrad besessen hatten. Sehr viele davon fahren noch, weil der Motor schlicht nicht kaputtgeht.
Drei Fahrmodi
Ausgewählt über diesen Block, wobei Urban die Leistung auf 75 PS senkt. Auf einem Motorrad, das im Stadtverkehr genutzt wird, wird diese Einstellung weit öfter gewählt, als irgendjemand zugibt.
Eine Nasskupplung
Ducati verzichtete bei dieser Generation auf die Trockenkupplung, was die Monster leiser und im Verkehr deutlich einfacher machte. Puristen trauerten dem Rattern nach, und alle anderen bemerkten es binnen einer Woche nicht mehr.
