Wo die Geländeeinstellungen sitzen
Hinterrad-ABS aus, Traktion herunter, Modus gewechselt. Jede Anpassung, die Schotter möglich macht, wird über diesen Block vorgenommen, mehrmals am Tag und meist mit nassen Handschuhen.
Von den Fußrasten aus erreichbar
Im Stehen liegen die Hände anders, und die Handgelenke kippen nach vorn. Ein Bedienelement muss auch in dieser Haltung auffindbar sein, was eine schwierigere Aufgabe ist, als sie jedes Straßenmotorrad stellt.
Aufgedruckte Beschriftungen und Sonnenlicht
Markierungen auf einem Kunststoffgehäuse verblassen innerhalb weniger Sommer. Bei einem Motorrad mit so vielen wählbaren Modi ist das wirklich unpraktisch und nicht nur unordentlich.
Staub in jedem Spalt
Feiner Staub dringt an einer geclipsten Abdeckung vorbei und verschwindet nie wieder. Anders als Wasser verflüchtigt er sich nicht an einem warmen Nachmittag, was ihn zum deutlich bleibenderen Problem macht.
Clips und Wellblechpisten
Zwei Kunststoffhälften unter stundenlangen Vibrationen auf grobem Gelände. Schnappverbindungen verlieren dort schneller ihre Spannung als je auf Asphalt.
Keine durchtrennten Kabel
Vorverdrahtet auf Ducatis eigenen Stecker. Weit entfernt von jeder Werkstatt ist eine Installation ohne Spleißstellen diejenige, die am entlegenen Ende noch funktioniert.
Ducati hat es ernst gemeint
Einundzwanzig Zoll vorn, viel Federweg an beiden Enden und ein Chassis, das um einen stehenden Fahrer konzipiert wurde. Die Desert X ist kein Straßenmotorrad mit Schnabel.
Hundertzehn PS
Deutlich mehr, als das Format verlangt, aus dem 937-cm³-Testastretta. Ducati hat sie verbaut, weil das Unternehmen genau das tut.
Ein Zusatztank
Ducati bot einen heckmontierten zweiten Tank für echte Reichweite an. Nur sehr wenige Hersteller bemühen sich darum, und das sagt etwas darüber aus, für wen die Desert X konzipiert wurde.
