Where Everything Is Set
Riding modes, traction, wheelie control, engine braking and the display. Ducati put the whole interface on the left and this is where a rider meets all of it.
Printed Legends Fade
The markings on a moulded shell are applied to the surface and ultraviolet removes them within a few summers. Everything works and nothing can be read.
Warm and Cold, Repeatedly
The cockpit heats with the engine and cools overnight, hundreds of times a year. Plastics creep under that cycling and machined aluminium does not.
Clips Lose Their Grip
Two moulded halves held by snap fittings, under vibration, for years. The tension goes gradually and the movement that follows never resolves itself.
Anodising With Depth
The colour is grown into the aluminium rather than laid over it. A scratch takes coloured surface with it instead of exposing bright metal underneath.
Twenty Minutes to Undo
Nothing is spliced, so the factory block returns whenever it is wanted. On a new model that will change hands, an untouched harness is worth keeping.
An Engine Built From Nothing
Eight hundred and ninety cubic centimetres with no lineage back to the Superquadro. Ducati designed it around weight and usability rather than a homologation ceiling.
The Lightest Panigale

Narrower and Lower
Ducati slimmed the tank and dropped the seat. This V2 was built for people who found earlier Panigales physically punishing rather than merely demanding.
Aimed at the Rest of the Market
Ducati has spent fifteen years building superbikes that reward a very small number of riders and punish everybody else. The 890 V2 is the model where the company went the other way deliberately, and the sales figures since suggest a great many people had been waiting for it.
