Menus and a Pit Limiter
Riding modes, traction, wheelie control and a proper pit-lane speed limiter, all reached from this side of the bar. Ducati fitted more to navigate than any previous Panigale and this is where it is navigated.
An Inertial Platform
The 1299 gained a Bosch six-axis unit with cornering ABS and lean-sensitive wheelie control. It turned a difficult motorcycle into one a competent rider could use most of.
Three Anodised Options
Black, red and titanium, each converted into the aluminium. Against the 1299's paint, red continues what is already on the fairing rather than adding anything new.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed inside the machined body. On a superbike washed hot after track use, water reaching a terminal and staying there is what actually ends switchgear.
No Printed Legends
Nothing on this body is printed, so nothing fades. On a moulded block the markings usually give up several years before the mechanism does.
Under Braking
The left hand is doing one job at the end of a straight and has nothing spare for finding a button. A control located by feel rather than by looking is the whole argument for machined geometry.
Two Hundred and Five Horsepower
From 1285 cc, which remains an extraordinary figure for a two-cylinder engine. Ducati found it in the stroke because the bore had already gone as far as it could.
Nothing Spliced
Pre-wired to Ducati's own plug. The exchange is mechanical, takes about a quarter of an hour and undoes just as quickly.
The Last Twin Flagship
After the 1299 came the V4 and a line that began with the 851 in 1988 came to an end. Values have reflected that ever since and owners tend to specify these bikes accordingly.
