Die mechanische Seite
Zwei Membranventilgehäuse, zwei Schläuche und ein Satz Schellen. Wird das Magnetventil elektrisch abgeklemmt, bleibt jedes einzelne davon weiterhin am Motor verschraubt.
Warum verschließen statt zustopfen
Werkstätten improvisieren mit einer Schraube und einer Unterlegscheibe oder mit Epoxidharz. Keins von beiden bleibt eine Saison voller Wärmezyklen lang dicht, ein gedrehter Stopfen mit O-Ring schon.
Ride-by-Wire
Die 1090 nutzt ein elektronisches Gas mit mehreren Fahrmodi. Das bedeutet auch, dass die Gemischaufbereitung vollständig über Software läuft, und deshalb sind ehrliche Abgasmesswerte wichtig, bevor jemand daran etwas ändert.
Hundertfünfundzwanzig PS
KTM gab dem Einstiegs-Adventure-Modell den Großteil der Leistung zurück, die die gedrosselte Abstimmung der 1050 gekostet hatte. Das machte das Modell erheblich leichter zu empfehlen.
Was wegfällt
Gehäuse, Schläuche und Halter. An einem Motorrad, das auf rauem Gelände gefahren wird, sind das gleich mehrere Teile weniger, die sich lockern oder abreißen können.
Hitze und Vibration
Kunststoff, der an einen Zylinderkopf geschraubt ist, muss mehr Wärmedehnung verkraften als fast alles andere am Motorrad. Aluminium ist das gleichgültig.
Beide Zylinder
Der V-Zweizylinder trägt diese Anordnung zweimal. Eine Seite zu verschließen und die andere zu lassen, bringt sehr wenig.
Nichts gebohrt
Durchgehend KTMs eigene Befestigungspunkte und Anzugsmomente. Der Zylinderkopf wird in keiner Weise verändert, die eine Prüfung feststellen würde.
Das Magnetventil bleibt
Sein Stromkreis wird vom Steuergerät unabhängig überwacht. Nur der elektrische Eliminator hält die Warnung vom Display fern.
Typgenehmigung
Mit dem Ausbau von Abgastechnik erlischt die Straßenzulassung in jedem europäischen Markt.
Eine Modellpalette, die sich um sie herum neu ordnete
KTM stellte die 1090 ein, als die 790 von unten kam und die 1290 alles darüber abdeckte. Nichts ersetzte sie direkt, und deshalb hat das Modell noch immer seine Anhänger: Hundertfünfundzwanzig PS und ein Neunzehn-Zoll-Vorderrad erwiesen sich als Kombination, die das Unternehmen nie wieder gebaut hat.
