Ein Stahl-Gitterrohrrahmen
Von der 400 übernommen, weil das Fahrwerk nie der begrenzende Faktor war. Kawasaki steckte das Entwicklungsbudget stattdessen in den Motor.
Aufrecht und praktisch
Die Sitzposition taugt zum Pendeln, und genau dafür werden die meisten Z500 genutzt. Die Z500 ist die vernünftige Hälfte der Plattform.
Das Membranventil
Ein geformtes Gehäuse mit einer Membran pro Anschluss, auf den Zylinderkopfdeckel geschraubt und über einen Schlauch aus der Airbox gespeist. Es ist die Hälfte, die die Luft physisch einlässt.
Vor jedem Mapping
Luft, die nach der Verbrennung in den Auspuff gelangt, verschiebt die Messwerte, und jede Entscheidung zur Gemischabstimmung, die auf diesen Werten beruht, übernimmt diese Verschiebung.
Montage bei kaltem Motor
Es gibt keinen Grund, das an einem warmen Motor zu versuchen, und jeden Grund, es zu lassen. Aluminiumgewinde und heiße Gussteile sind eine schlechte Kombination.
Aluminium auf Aluminium
Hier wird nicht Metall auf Metall gepresst. Ein Gummiring in einer gedrehten Nut übernimmt die Abdichtung, weshalb die Dichtfläche am Zylinderkopf nach dem zehnten Ausbau so unberührt ist wie nach dem ersten.
Eine Reparatur mit Nebeneffekt
An jeder Kawasaki, die älter als ein Jahrzehnt ist, hat das Membranventilgehäuse nur noch eine begrenzte Restlebensdauer. Es durch Aluminium zu ersetzen, erspart eine Arbeit, die ohnehin angestanden hätte, statt bloß ein Emissionsbauteil stillzulegen.
Die Airbox-Seite
Der Ausbau des Gehäuses hinterlässt dort eine Öffnung, wo der Schlauch angeschlossen war, und ungefilterte Luft im Ansaugtrakt ist ein schlechteres Ergebnis, als es das System je war.
Die vernünftige Hälfte
Die unverkleidete Version der 500er-Plattform ist die, die die meisten Besitzer kaufen sollten, und sehr viele tun das auch. Ein aufrechter Lenker und derselbe Motor machen sie mit großem Abstand zum besser nutzbaren Motorrad.
