A Hundred and Forty-Four Horsepower
In RR specification the 1090 makes more than most naked bikes of its era and delivers it from a 1078 cc four rather than a triple. It is a heavier, more traditional engine than MV's three-cylinder units and it suits a long circuit rather than a tight one.
Undervalued and Therefore Converted
Because the 1090 was overshadowed by the fashionable 800s, good examples are affordable in a way that makes turning one into a dedicated track bike entirely rational. That is increasingly what is happening to them.
Fewer, Further Apart
Removing the indicator and horn positions leaves the remaining controls better separated on the same housing. A rider working by feel counts down from the top, and every redundant position is one more chance to arrive at the wrong button.
Standard Wiring
No racing loom and no aftermarket dashboard. MV's connector and the factory ECU are used, so the traction control and maps continue to function and the motorcycle remains fully diagnosable.
Vibration From a Big Four
A 1078 cc engine in a trellis frame with no bodywork transmits a great deal into the bars. A one-piece machined body clamped with a proper fastener stays tight under that where two clipped mouldings gradually work apart.
Sealed Against Hot Washing
Sealed elements inside a body with no moulded seam. A jet washer used on a warm engine finds every joint there is, and the absence of one is the most useful property this housing has in a paddock.
Black Anodised
A single finish, through the surface rather than applied. A slide dulls the component instead of stripping it back to bright aluminium, which on a bike that will eventually go down is what matters.
