Eine kleinere Bohrung
KTM verringerte den Hubraum für die 1090 und machte die Leistungsentfaltung sanfter, ausgerichtet auf Fahrer, denen die 1190 mehr Motorrad war, als sie brauchten.
Interpolation zwischen den Zellen
Das Gerät springt nicht von einem Wert zum nächsten. Es überblendet zwischen benachbarten Zellen, und deshalb erzeugt ein glattes Kennfeld einen runden Motorlauf, ein zackiges dagegen nicht.
Ein leeres Kennfeld ist sicher
Mit jeder Zelle auf null läuft das Motorrad mit seinem werksseitigen Gemisch. Durch den Einbau des Geräts allein ändert sich nichts, bis jemand einen Wert einträgt.
Immer in kleinen Schritten
Drei Prozent auf einmal. Darauf reagiert ein Motor deutlich genug, um es zu beurteilen, und nicht so heftig, dass ein Fehler teuer wird.
Null bedeutet Serie
Jede Zelle startet bei null, und das Motorrad verhält sich genau so, wie es die Werksauslegung vorsieht. Es gibt kein Standardkennfeld, das rückgängig zu machen wäre, und auf der ersten Fahrt gibt es keine Überraschung.
Wie sich ein gutes Kennfeld anfühlt
Nichts Besonderes. Das Zögern ist weg, das Aufschaukeln ist weg, und der Motor tut einfach, was die Hand verlangt. Gute Abstimmung ist unsichtbar.
Dokumentation
Es gibt ein Handbuch, und es ist kurz. Der größte Teil des Lernens geschieht in der Software mit dem Motorrad vor sich, nicht in einem Dokument.
Zulassung und Recht
Die Kraftstoffzufuhr ist in den meisten europäischen Märkten Teil der Emissionszulassung. Ein verändertes Gemisch bringt die Maschine aus ihrem zugelassenen Zustand heraus, und das ist eine lokale Angelegenheit.

Das vorkonfigurierte Modul beantwortet die Frage für einen; dieses Gerät gibt die Werkzeuge und erwartet, dass man sie selbst beantwortet. Alles andere an den beiden Geräten – die Verkabelung, die Reversibilität, die unangetastete Originalelektronik – ist identisch.
