Das schnellste Modell
Harley hat den größten Milwaukee-Eight-Motor und ein verbessertes Fahrwerk in die Low Rider S verbaut und damit mit deutlichem Abstand das schnellste Modell der Softail-Reihe geschaffen.
Erst der Einbau, dann die Abstimmung
Das Steuergerät wird eingebaut, das Kennfeld bleibt leer, und das Motorrad wird gefahren. Erst danach beginnt die Abstimmung, denn eine selbst erfahrene Ausgangsbasis ist mehr wert als eine angenommene.
Montage des Steuergeräts
Unter dem Sitz oder unter dem Tank, gesichert und trocken, mit einem USB-Anschluss, der ohne halbe Demontage des Motorrads erreichbar ist. Dieser letzte Punkt verdient Beachtung, bevor die Kabelbinder angebracht werden.
Filter und Luftfilterkästen
Ein offener Luftfilter verändert die gesamte Kennfeldfläche und nicht nur einen Bereich. Wer einen solchen montiert, sollte eine komplette Abstimmungssitzung einplanen und nicht nur eine kleine Anpassung.
Null bedeutet Serie
Jede Zelle beginnt bei null, und das Motorrad verhält sich genau so, wie es werksseitig vorgesehen ist. Es gibt kein voreingestelltes Kennfeld, das rückgängig gemacht werden müsste, und keine Überraschung bei der ersten Fahrt.
Aufzeichnungen führen
Welches Kennfeld, welche Auspuffanlage, welcher Kraftstoff, welches Datum. Sechs Monate später entscheidet diese Aufzeichnung darüber, ob ein Kennfeld weiterentwickelt oder von Neuem begonnen werden muss.
Disziplin bei der Abstimmung
Ein Bereich nach dem anderen, eine Variable nach der anderen, jeweils vor und nach der Änderung gespeichert. Ohne diese Disziplin entsteht eine Datei, die niemand mehr nachvollziehen kann, nicht einmal ihr Autor.
Was niemand erwähnt
Der größte Teil der Arbeit ist nicht die Abstimmung selbst. Es ist die Montage einer Breitbandsonde, das Finden einer ruhigen Straße, das Erlernen der Software und der Aufbau einer Routine, die vergleichbare Messungen liefert.
Ein Kennfeld kennt keine Obergrenze
Anders als eine feste Kurve lässt es sich immer weiter verbessern, solange jemand daran arbeitet. Das ist das Argument für den höheren Preis, und es lohnt sich nur für einen Besitzer, der diese Arbeit auch leisten will.
