The Complete Version
Variable timing and semi-active suspension together. It is the most refined thing KTM has built around that engine in fifteen years.
What Can Go Wrong
A map leaned out where the engine is working hard. That is the one genuinely dangerous mistake available here, and it is why a wideband sensor is not optional equipment.
Altitude and Temperature
The standard controller compensates using its own sensors and this unit applies its map on top. A map developed at sea level still works in the mountains, only less precisely.
The Injector Signal
Everything happens there. The unit lengthens or shortens a pulse the standard controller already issued, which is the least invasive way to change what an engine is fed.
Fitting Is the Easy Part
Connectors, a mounting position and a cable tie. Twenty minutes to an hour depending on the model, and then the actual work starts.
Cruise First
The cells a motorcycle actually occupies on a road are a small part of the map and account for most of what a rider notices. Start there rather than at full load.
Reading the Year Span
Injection hardware changes more often than engines do. The years in the listing are part of the product, because the harness is cut for a specific arrangement.
Naming Files Properly
Motorcycle, exhaust, fuel and date. Six months and three exhausts later, a folder of files called map1 through map9 is worthless.
When It Is Finished
When another session produces no change you can measure and none you can feel. Beyond that point the work is a hobby rather than an improvement, which is a perfectly good reason to continue.
