Ein gedrosselter R1-Motor
Yamaha verkürzte den Hub des R1-Motors auf 779 cm³ und entschärfte ihn für die FZ8. Es ist eine sanftere, weniger hektische Version eines sehr guten Vierzylinders, der nie ganz sein Publikum fand.
Fünf Jahre im Programm
Die FZ8 kam 2010 und verschwand bis 2015, eingeklemmt zwischen der kleineren FZ6 und der größeren FZ1. Erhaltene Exemplare sind günstig und deutlich besser als ihr Ruf.
Was PAIR macht
Führt Frischluft in die Abgaskanäle, damit unverbrannter Kraftstoff zu Ende verbrennt. Es senkt die gemessenen Emissionen und erzeugt das Knallen bei geschlossener Drosselklappe.
Der Magnetventil-Stromkreis
Das Steuergerät prüft ihn bei jedem Start. Wird er ohne Eliminator getrennt, bleibt eine Warnung, die sich nicht löschen lässt.
Vor einem Remap
Luft, die nach der Verbrennung eintritt, macht den Lambdawert bedeutungslos. Wer eine FZ8 auf den Prüfstand stellt, sollte das System zuerst entfernen.
Die Zylinderkopfkanäle
Sie müssen separat verschlossen werden. Der Magnetventil-Eliminator ist die elektrische Hälfte, eine Abdeckplatte die mechanische.
Abgasanlage-Komponente
Ihre Entfernung nimmt dem Motorrad die Typgenehmigung, was dies überall dort zu einer Modifikation für die Rennstrecke macht, wo die Vorschriften durchgesetzt werden.
Hundertsechs PS
Genug, um zügig zu sein, und nicht so viel, dass das Fahrwerk überfordert wäre. Die FZ8 gehört zu den unterschätzteren Naked Bikes ihres Jahrzehnts.
Reversibel
Yamahas eigener Anschluss, nichts gespleißt. Das Magnetventil kehrt für eine Prüfung zurück, in der Zeit, die das Anheben des Tanks braucht.
Heute günstig, damals gut
Die FZ8 verkaufte sich schlecht, weil sie zwischen zwei bekannteren Modellen saß und etwa so viel kostete wie beide. Fünfzehn Jahre später ist sie einer der günstigsten Wege zu einem echten Yamaha-Vierzylinder, und der Motor hat sich als ebenso haltbar erwiesen wie die R1-Einheit, von der er abstammt.
