The JP ES 016 stops the Scrambler 800 lighting a lamp failure on the panel when the number plate illumination has been changed for something the controller cannot see.

A Brand Within a Brand
Ducati marketed the Scrambler almost separately, with its own dealers, clothing and identity. It worked well enough to become the company's volume model.
The Smallest Lamp on the Motorcycle
It illuminates the registration plate and nothing else, and Ducati monitors it exactly as carefully as the headlight. Very few owners know it has its own circuit.
LED Replacements Fail Too
A small LED plate light draws a fraction of the original, which the controller reads as an open circuit just as readily as no lamp at all.
Refit Before an Inspection
Where roadworthiness testing includes lighting, the standard hanger and lamp go back in minutes with nothing needing replacement.
Heat Is Not a Concern Here
Unlike an indicator resistor, a plate lamp load is tiny and the eliminator runs cool. It can be tucked anywhere convenient under the tail.

Ducati's standard plate hangers are long, and shortening them is close to universal. That is precisely why this small part exists in the catalogue.

Everything about this can be undone in the time it took to do, which is the property that separates a modification from an alteration.
Keep the Original Assembly
The standard lamp, its bracket and its fasteners belong together in a labelled bag. Refitting is a two-minute job with nothing needing replacement, and the person who eventually needs them is either an inspector or the next owner rather than you.
Two Circuits, Two Parts
Owners fitting a full rear conversion frequently need the plate lamp answered and the tail light answered, and those are separate connectors with separate part numbers. Ordering one and discovering the panel is still lit is the commonest disappointment in this corner of the catalogue.
