Aktivkohle in einem Kunststoffbehälter
Sie nimmt Benzindampf auf, der aus einem warmen Tank aufsteigt, und hält ihn fest, bis der Motor ihn über den Ansaugtrakt ansaugen kann. Das ist der ganze Mechanismus.
Kein Leistungsversprechen
Der Ausbau der Begrenzung der Verdunstungsemissionen setzt keine Leistung frei, schärft nicht die Gasannahme und verbessert nicht den Verbrauch. Wer anderes verspricht, hat das System missverstanden.
Gewicht hoch und mittig
Genau dort, wo ein Motorrad es am wenigsten haben will. Die Zahl ist klein, aber die Lage macht sie mehr wert, als die Waage vermuten lässt.
Warum die Füllung versagt
Aktivkohle hält Dampf in ihren Poren fest, bis diese voll sind, und gibt ihn wieder ab, wenn der Motor ansaugt. Flüssiger Kraftstoff füllt die Poren dauerhaft, weshalb ein einziges unachtsames Tanken einen Aktivkohlefilter erledigen kann, der noch Jahre vor sich hatte.
Ein Vermerk im Serviceheft
Wer diese Maschine in fünf Jahren diagnostiziert, wird davon ausgehen, dass das System vorhanden ist. Es aufzuschreiben kostet nichts und erspart jemandem einen wirklich frustrierenden Nachmittag.
Ethanol verkürzt die Lebensdauer
Moderne Kraftstoffmischungen setzen der Aktivkohle stärker zu als der Kraftstoff, für den das System ausgelegt wurde, weshalb Aktivkohlefilter an Motorrädern aus dem letzten Jahrzehnt früher aufgeben, als ihre Konstrukteure erwartet hatten.
Kein reines Rennstreckenteil
Viele davon werden an Straßenmotorrädern in Märkten montiert, in denen das System nie vorgeschrieben war, einfach um den Platz hinter dem Motor zurückzugewinnen.
