DescriptionThe whole story▼
A quick-action throttle on a 1290 Super Duke R displaces the right-hand controls. The JP PDQ KT016 carries them on a bar clamp of their own, in titanium.
Key Features
- KTM 1290 Super Duke R (2020–2023)
- For quick-action throttle installations
- Titanium anodised Ergal 7075
- CNC-machined from solid
- Military-specification switch elements
- Pre-wired for the original connector
The Third Generation of the Beast
KTM rebuilt the Super Duke for 2020 around a new frame that uses the engine as a stressed member, dropped the weight and raised the output to 180 hp. It is sharper and considerably more composed than the bike it replaced without being any better behaved.
Ride-by-Wire and a Shorter Cam
The 1290 has no throttle cable, so a quick-action conversion changes the profile the position sensor reads rather than the amount of cable pulled. The result at the throttle bodies is identical and the mechanism is entirely different.
What Comes Off With the Tube
KTM builds the right-hand switch block into the throttle assembly. Replacing one removes the other, and with it the starter and the engine stop switch that a road-registered motorcycle is obliged to carry.
An Independent Clamp
This unit mounts to the handlebar rather than to the throttle, so the throttle can be revisited later without disturbing anything electrical and the switch position is set by the rider rather than dictated by where the assembly ends.
A Hundred and Eighty Horsepower in the Wind
With no bodywork the hands take the full airflow, and reaching for a control at speed is a deliberate movement made against pressure. A switch placed where the thumb naturally rests shortens that movement and makes it more certain.
Nothing Reaches the Loom
Pre-wired for KTM's own connector. No wire is cut, the traction control and riding modes continue to work exactly as calibrated, and no fault code appears on the display after fitting.
Titanium
A single anodised finish, converted into the surface rather than laid over it. Against the Super Duke's orange frame and dark plastics it identifies the component as machined without adding another colour.
