A Hundred and Eighty Horsepower, No Fairing
The original Super Duke R is the one that established the reputation: a 1301 cc V-twin from the RC8 R in a chassis under 190 kilograms with nothing over it. Everything about the motorcycle encourages behaviour it would be unwise to describe in detail.
A Twin Wants a Short Action
The LC8 responds immediately at any point in the rev range, and a long throttle travel puts a delay between intention and result that the engine does not deserve. Shortening it is among the first changes owners make.
The Housing Comes Off
KTM builds the right-hand switch block into the throttle assembly. Removing the tube removes the starter and engine stop with it, and on a road-registered motorcycle both have to be restored properly.
Working Against the Wind
With no bodywork the rider's hands take the full airflow at speed, and reaching for a control becomes a deliberate movement. A switch positioned where the thumb naturally rests reduces how far that movement has to travel.
A Big Twin's Beat
A 1301 cc V-twin at low revs sends a heavy, low-frequency pulse into the handlebar. Military-specification sealed contacts in a machined block tolerate that considerably better than a clipped moulded assembly does.
Nothing Cut
Pre-wired for KTM's own connector, so the traction control and riding modes continue to work and no fault code appears. The standard assembly refits at any point without trace.
Titanium
One finish, converted into the surface. Against the Super Duke's orange trellis frame it identifies the component as machined without adding another colour to a cockpit that already has plenty.
