Dies ist das teuerste Teil, das Fullsix für die DesertX baut, und der Grund ist schlicht Fläche. Die Seitenverkleidungen sind die beiden größten Paneele am Motorrad, sie bestimmen sein Profil, und sie tragen das meiste Carbon. Sie zu montieren ist der Punkt, an dem eine DesertX aufhört, wie ein Motorrad mit Carbonzubehör auszusehen, und anfängt, wie ein Carbonmotorrad zu wirken.

Große Paneele sind die schwierigen
Eine Ritzelabdeckung kann jeder laminieren. Ein Paneel dieser Größe ist ein anderes Problem: Das Laminat muss über eine große, doppelt gekrümmte Fläche gleichmäßig aushärten, und es muss aus der Form kommen, ohne die inneren Spannungen, die ein großes Carbonteil langsam verziehen lassen. Genau dafür ist Autoklavhärtung da – gleichmäßiger Druck und gleichmäßige Temperatur über die ganze Fläche, sodass das Paneel, das die Form verlässt, dasselbe ist, das Sie zwei Jahre später noch verschrauben.
Hier wird das Gewebe außerdem zur optischen statt zur technischen Entscheidung. Über eine so große Fläche liest sich 200 Plain auf Gesprächsdistanz als feine, regelmäßige Struktur und verschwindet aus größerer Entfernung in einem dunklen Schimmer. Diese Zurückhaltung ist der Grund, warum Ducati für eigenes Carbon Leinwandgewebe vorgibt und warum Fullsix es hier anbietet.
Montagereihenfolge und Spaltmaße
Große Paneele werden lose montiert und zuletzt festgezogen. Setzen Sie jede Schraube auf beiden Seiten zunächst von Hand an, prüfen Sie die Spaltmaße zu Tank und Kühlerspoilern am aufrecht stehenden Motorrad, korrigieren Sie – und ziehen Sie erst dann fest. Eine Seite fertigzumachen, bevor man die andere beginnt, ist der Weg zu einem Satz mit sichtbar breiterem Spalt links als rechts, und das lässt sich nur durch Neuanfang beheben.
Planen Sie einen richtigen Nachmittag ein statt einer Stunde. Wenn auch der Innenverkleidungssatz MD-DX22-C37 montiert wird, machen Sie beides im selben Arbeitsgang – sie teilen sich Befestigungspunkte, und sie gemeinsam einzustellen ist erheblich einfacher, als den einen später zum anderen zu ergänzen.
