Das Materialargument, ehrlich
Avio Fibre ist kein billiger Carbon-Ersatz, sondern eine andere Antwort auf dieselbe Aufgabe. Carbonin baut es aus hochwertiger Glasfaser, an Kanten und Befestigungspunkten mit Carbon verstärkt und in Epoxidharz getränkt. Es ist fester, leichter und deutlich nachgiebiger als klassisches Fiberglas und reißt nicht so leicht wie Carbon. Was es nicht ist: so leicht wie Carbon — wenn jedes Gramm zählt, gewinnt Carbon weiterhin. An einem Kotflügel, der tief sitzt und den ganzen Tag Steinschlag abbekommt, ist die Nachgiebigkeit wohl mehr wert als die letzten Gramm.
Zwei Kotflügel, eine Entscheidung
Carbonin bietet das Teil in beiden Stufen, und die Wahl ist einfacher, als sie aussieht. Fährt das Motorrad Sichtcarbon-Details, passt der Carbonkotflügel CH12010 dazu. Wird es in ein Design lackiert — was auf die meisten Rennmotorräder zutrifft —, verschwindet das Gewebe ohnehin unter der Farbe, und das hier gesparte Geld bezahlt den Lack. Deshalb verkauft sich die Avio-Fibre-Fassung an Maschinen, die fahren statt zu stehen, besser als die Carbonfassung.
Lackieren
Der weiße Gelcoat ist eine Grundierfläche und kein Finish. Er existiert, damit ein Lackierer eine gleichmäßige Basis hat — genau deshalb ist diese Fassung die übliche Wahl für ein Motorrad in Teamfarben.
