2,4 PS an einer Reiseenduro sind ein größerer Zuwachs, als die meisten Slip-Ons überhaupt irgendwo schaffen — und an der DesertX kommen 1,8 Nm dazu sowie ein Hitzeschild, den Akrapovic von Grund auf neu gezeichnet und nicht von einem anderen Modell übernommen hat.

Ein Hitzeschild für genau dieses Motorrad
Akrapovic gibt an, dass der Hitzeschild hier vollständig neu entworfen wurde, und der Grund liegt darin, wofür eine DesertX benutzt wird. Es ist eine rallye-artige Maschine mit hoher Sitzbank, einem Soziusplatz über dem Dämpfer und Gepäck, das über beides gezurrt wird. Der Schild deckt die Fläche ab, die ein Sozius-Stiefel und eine Packrolle tatsächlich einnehmen, und nicht die kleinere, die an einem Straßenmotorrad genügen würde.
Er gehört zum Lieferumfang. Bei einem Teil dieser Klasse gehört das gesagt, denn bei etlichen Mitbewerbern steht er als eigener Posten im Zubehörkatalog.
Haltbarkeit als Entwicklungsziel
Der Aufbau ist bewusst gemischt: Titan dort, wo das Gewicht sitzt, Edelstahl für Innenstruktur und Verbindungsrohr dort, wo Temperaturwechsel und Vibration am stärksten sind. Eine DesertX verbringt Zeit auf Untergründen, die ein Motorrad zerrütteln, und eine reine Titananlage, allein auf Masse optimiert, wäre dafür die falsche Antwort.
Gasannahme
Die gemessenen 2,4 PS liegen bei 9.400/min, aber Akrapovic nennt als Entwicklungsziel die Gasannahme und nicht die Spitzenleistung. An einem 937-cm³-Twin auf losem Untergrund entscheidet die Sauberkeit, mit der der Motor aus geschlossenem Gasgriff annimmt, mehr als die Zahl oben auf dem Blatt.

Ducatis 937-cm³-Testastretta sitzt in der DesertX, der Monster, der Multistrada V2 und der Hypermotard 950. Halter sehen den geteilten Motor und nehmen an, die Auspuffteile seien untereinander tauschbar; sind sie nicht. Die DesertX trägt ihren Dämpfer hoch und weit hinten, um 220 mm Federweg und ein 21-Zoll-Vorderrad freizugehen, und ihre Aufnahme gibt es nur an diesem Fahrwerk.
