Das Jahr im Fahrzeugschein entscheidet diesen Kauf. Akrapovic fertigt für die ZZR1400 zwei Katalysator-Sätze — dieses für 2012 bis 2015 und P-KAT-054 für 2016 bis 2020 — und sie sind nicht austauschbar, obwohl die Motorräder gleich aussehen.

Warum es zwei Sätze gibt
Kawasaki aktualisierte die Abgastechnik der ZZR1400 während der Bauzeit, ohne die Verkleidung zu ändern — zwei Maschinen, die aus zehn Schritt Entfernung gleich aussehen, brauchen also verschiedene Katalysatoren. Das Modelljahr ist der einzige verlässliche Unterschied.
Allein nach Modellnamen zu bestellen ist der Weg zur falschen Packung. Prüfen Sie die Erstzulassung, und wo die uneindeutig ist, klärt es die Fahrgestellnummer.
Zwei Katalysatoren, eine Nummer
Der 1.441-cm³-Reihenvierzylinder teilt sein Abgas auf zwei Stränge auf, und jeder braucht einen eigenen Katalysator. Das bedeutet SET in der Artikelnummer, und deshalb ist der Preis für ein klein wirkendes Bauteil, wie er ist.
Einen zu verbauen und den anderen wegzulassen hieße, die Hälfte des Abgases durch gar nichts zu schicken.
Was darin steckt
Eine Metallwabe, beschichtet mit Palladium, Rhodium und Platin. Abgas, das über diese Flächen streicht, gibt Kohlenmonoxid und unverbrannte Kohlenwasserstoffe ab, die als Kohlendioxid und Wasserdampf hinausgehen.
Die Edelmetalle machen den größten Teil des Preises aus und lassen sich nicht prüfen. Ein überhitzter oder vergifteter Katalysator sieht genauso aus wie ein funktionierender — das ist das Argument gegen den Gebrauchtkauf.
Ein alternder Hypertourer
Eine ZZR1400 von 2012 ist heute weit über zehn Jahre alt, und Katalysatoren halten nicht ewig. Hitzewechsel reißen den Träger; eine Phase mit zu fettem Gemisch belegt ihn. Beides ist an einem Motorrad dieses Alters realistisch, und beides zeigt sich als nicht bestandene Abgasuntersuchung und nicht als etwas Sichtbares.
Damit ist das ebenso ein Wartungsteil wie ein Tuningteil.
Auf die Akrapovic-Anlage abgestimmt
Akrapovic beschreibt die eigenen Katalysatoren als leistungsorientiert und nicht als Universalteile — ausgelegt darauf, Durchfluss und Klang zu erhalten, um die herum die eigenen Anlagen gebaut sind. Die veröffentlichten Werte des ZZR1400-Slip-Ons setzen diesen Katalysator voraus und kein Ersatzteil von der Stange.
Das schnellste Serienmotorrad ihrer Zeit
Die ZZR1400 hielt diesen Titel jahrelang, und die Maschinen dieser Zeit wurden von Fahrern neu gekauft, die genau das wollten, und von Besitzern behalten, die es noch immer wollen. Sie werden gepflegt statt weitergereicht — deshalb gibt es für ein vierzehn Jahre altes Modell überhaupt noch einen Teilemarkt.
Ein Katalysator ist der unglamouröseste Posten dieser Liste und einer der wenigen, die irgendwann ersetzt werden müssen.
