Die meisten Akrapovic-Hitzeschilde gibt es, um eine Akrapovic-Anlage abzurunden. Dieses ist anders: Es passt auch an die serienmäßigen Indian-Krümmer. Damit ist es das einzige Teil dieses Bereichs, das jemand für ein völlig unverändertes Motorrad kaufen kann, ohne dass es ins Leere geht.

Das Teil, das keine Anlage braucht
Akrapovic sagt es unmissverständlich: Dieses Schild lässt sich an Akrapovic- oder an Serienkrümmern verwenden. Fast jedes andere Zubehörteil der Reihe setzt voraus, dass bereits eine Akrapovic-Anlage montiert ist — dieses nicht.
Für einen FTR-Besitzer, dem die Serienanlage gefällt und der am Krümmer schlicht die Carbon-Optik will, ist es damit ein wirklich eigenständiger Kauf.
Achtzig Gramm
Von serienmäßigen 130 g auf 50, also 62 Prozent Ersparnis an einem Teil, das weniger wiegt als ein Mobiltelefon. Niemand wird das spüren, und niemand sollte etwas anderes behaupten.
Der Grund für den Einbau ist, wie es an einer FTR aussieht. Indian hat das Motorrad um einen Flat-Track-Renner herum gestaltet, und das Krümmerschild sitzt rechts oben, wo man es unmöglich übersehen kann.
Zehn Minuten
Die kürzeste Montagezeit von allem, was Akrapovic führt. Das Schild wird vom Krümmer abgeschraubt, und das neue kommt an dieselben Aufnahmen. Kein Werkzeug außer Inbusschlüsseln und nichts einzustellen.
Carbon am Krümmer, nicht am Dämpfer
Dieses Schild sitzt am Krümmer und nicht am Dämpfer, und das ist der heißere Platz für einen Verbundwerkstoff. Die Harzsysteme, die Akrapovic für Krümmerschilde verwendet, sind dafür ausgesucht — und deshalb kostet ein Krümmerschild mehr als ein Dämpferschild ähnlicher Größe.
Was es schützt
An der FTR läuft der Krümmer rechts am Motor hoch und am Schienbein des Fahrers vorbei. Das Serienschild ist dort, weil ein Stiefel in natürlicher Haltung sonst an heißem Stahl läge.
Ein Ersatz aus Carbon muss diese Aufgabe genauso erfüllen wie das Blech zuvor — deshalb ist das hier ein tragendes Bauteil aus Verbundwerkstoff und keine Zierblende, die man über das Original klemmt.
Zwei Modelljahre
FTR 1200 und FTR 1200 S der Jahre 2019 und 2020. Indian überarbeitete die Maschine 2021 mit anderer Verkleidung und anderer Abgasführung; spätere Motorräder brauchen ein anderes Teil.
Das Gewebe ist hier sichtbar
An einem Schild, das so hoch und so weit außen sitzt, ist das Carbon ein Gestaltungselement — ob der Käufer das will oder nicht. Akrapovic legt das Gewebe so, dass das Muster längs zum Krümmer läuft und nicht quer; das ist eine Entscheidung und kein Zufall des Formprozesses.

Trägt das Motorrad bereits den optionalen Akrapovic-Krümmer oder das Verbindungsrohr für die FTR, vervollständigt dieses Schild das Bild. Wenn nicht, funktioniert es für sich — und genau darum geht es im Satz ganz oben auf dieser Seite.
Zulassung
Nicht einschlägig. Ein Hitzeschild ist weder ein Abgas- noch ein Geräuschbauteil, und keine der Zulassungsregeln greift daran.
