DescriptionThe whole story▼
Traffic lights at the top of a steep street are where many Scrambler Icon riders have their least favourite moment. Pulling away uphill asks clutch, throttle and rear brake to work together, and when the engine stalls halfway through, the bike rolls back, the rider grabs the front brake with the bars slightly turned, and the Icon leans past the point where a leg can hold it. For the Scrambler Icon of 2015 to 2018, Accossato lists the PP018, a pair of black rear axle sliders.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the Ducati Scrambler Icon, 2015 to 2018
- Accossato PP018, two protectors in the pack
- Made from aluminium and plastic, black
- Mounting kit with spacers and screws, according to Accossato
- Intended to take the first contact at the back of the bike
- Also listed for the Scrambler Classic, Sixty2 and 1100
- No German ABE available; supplied for track use
Construction and Material Quality
PP018 stands for a pair of black rear sliders that Accossato builds from aluminium and plastic. The kit, by the maker's account, holds spacers, screws and all the further parts needed to fit them. On a Scrambler Icon, the sliders are meant to reach the ground first at the rear if the bike topples, which can spare the swingarm and the rear axle area part of the damage. They are expected to scrape and wear, and one that has taken a real blow is exchanged.
Pulling Away Uphill
The steadiest hill start uses the rear brake as a third hand. Stop with the bars straight, left foot on the ground and right foot on the rear brake, and select first gear. Bring the clutch to its biting point until you feel the rear of the Scrambler Icon settle, add a little throttle, and only then ease off the rear brake as the bike begins to pull. Look up the hill, not at the front wheel. If the engine stalls, do not panic and do not let the bike roll: hold it on the brakes with the bars straight, put both feet down if you can reach, find neutral and restart. The fall usually comes when the front brake is snatched with the bars turned, so keep them pointing ahead until you are moving. Practise on a quiet slope before you meet a steep junction in traffic. And if the Icon does go over, look at the sliders, the rear brake pedal and the footpeg before you ride on.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PP018 for the Scrambler Icon from 2015 to 2018, and our listing follows those years. For the Icon, Accossato also has the PF044 front axle sliders and the TP090 crash pads. The same rear sliders are catalogued in our shop for the Scrambler Classic, the Scrambler Sixty2 and the Scrambler 1100. After fitting your Scrambler Icon, spin the rear wheel and make sure nothing touches the chain or the brake, and check the screws again after the first ride.
Road Approval
With no ABE or test report for the PP018 in our hands, we list the sliders for the racetrack and for competition.
