Sie erreicht einen trockenen Siedepunkt von mindestens 275 °C und einen nassen Siedepunkt von mindestens 185 °C, bleibt bei niedrigen Temperaturen flüssig und wird in 500-ml-Flaschen oder einem Zwölferkarton verkauft.

Accossato empfiehlt, diese Flüssigkeit nach dem Einsatz auf der Rennstrecke aus der Bremsanlage zu entfernen und vor der Rückkehr zum Straßenbetrieb durch DOT 4 zu ersetzen, was dem Umstand entspricht, dass DOT 5.1 auf Wettkampfbedingungen statt auf den Alltag ausgelegt ist. Die höheren trockenen und nassen Siedepunkte, 275 °C und 185 °C gegenüber 260 °C und 155 °C bei der DOT-4-Flüssigkeit, sind das, was die höheren Temperaturen auf der Strecke verlangen.
