Wer schon einmal versucht hat, eine mit trockenem Lehm verkrustete Lagerschraube zu lösen, weiß, warum das eine falsche Sparsamkeit ist: Der Dreck gelangt beim Herausdrehen der Schraube in das Gewinde, die Bohrung bekommt Kratzer, und eine Zehn-Minuten-Arbeit wird zu einem Abend. Accossato hält seine Beschreibung des AGS14 kurz, und dieser Text tut das Gleiche. Der Hebel ist nach der Form des Kupplungsbedienelements gefertigt, mit dem die 250EXC-F Six Days ausgeliefert wurde, sodass die linke Hand findet, was sie kennt, und nichts am Lenker neu angeordnet werden muss. Die Baureihe wurde zusammengestellt, damit ein beschädigtes Bedienelement günstig zu ersetzen ist, und der Hersteller gibt an, dass die Art der Fertigung diese Hebel widerstandsfähiger macht, sobald sie beschädigt wurden oder einen Sturz erlebt haben. Waschen, bevor Sie irgendetwas lösen
Reinigen ist kein kosmetischer Schritt vor einer Reparatur; es ist deren erste Stufe. Um eine Hebelbaugruppe getrockneter Lehm wirkt schmirgelnd, und jedes Partikel, das in die Lagerbohrung oder ein Gewinde wandert, bleibt dort und schadet noch lange, nachdem das neue Hebelblatt montiert ist. Der Ablauf, der funktioniert, ist einfach genug. Spülen Sie das Cockpit mit einem sanften Wasserstrahl statt mit einem Strahlrohr, halten Sie Druck von Schaltern und Lagern fern, und lassen Sie den Bereich ablaufen und trocknen, bevor ein Schlüssel ihn berührt. Lösen Sie die Lagerschraube und ziehen Sie sie langsam heraus, wischen Sie sie dabei ab. Reinigen Sie die Bohrung in der Armatur mit einem um etwas Stumpfes gewickelten Lappen, prüfen Sie sie auf Kratzer, und fetten Sie die Schraube erst dann leicht, bevor Sie den neuen Hebel montieren. Während die Baugruppe offen ist, fahren Sie mit einem Finger über die Fläche, an der das Hebelblatt auf den Kolben oder die Druckstange trifft, denn sich dort sammelnder Sand schleift eine Rille, die kein neuer Hebel heilt. Beenden Sie die Arbeit, indem Sie den Hebel zwanzig Mal bewegen und prüfen, dass er jedes Mal vollständig zurückkehrt und der Anbisspunkt dort liegt wie zuvor. An einer 250EXC-F Six Days, die im tiefen Schlamm gefahren wird, misst sich der Unterschied zwischen einem gelegentlich und einem nach jeder Fahrt gereinigten Bedienelement in Jahren der Lebensdauer, nicht im Gefühl.
