Small motorcycles cover far longer distances than their brochures imply, and the XSR 155 is one of the bikes people actually do it on: a few days out, a shortcut that turns to gravel, a stretch of road being rebuilt somewhere in the middle. What makes that work is that nothing on the machine should need a specialist while you are away from home, and consumables are where the plan usually breaks. An air filter is the one most likely to be wanted at the end of a dry stage rather than before it. The Sprint Filter P14 PM198P14 takes it off the list of things to worry about: a dry non-woven element filtering to 14 microns that is cleaned instead of replaced.

Nothing to source, nothing to wait for
Distance from home turns a paper element into a small logistics problem with a delivery time attached, and on a model sold under different names in different markets the part number is rarely the quick conversation it ought to be. A washable element ends the discussion. Where there is an air line it is a twenty-minute job; where there is not, lukewarm water and a mild detergent do the same work more slowly. That is the practical reason riders on long trips move to a dry medium, and it has nothing to do with performance — an element that drops into the standard housing does not make a 155 any stronger.
Fabric chosen for the ground, not the badge
Several materials are offered for this housing because the right one depends on what the air is carrying. The P08 is a woven fabric rated at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second, made for road and track. This P14 gives up flow to gain retention, at 14 microns and 1,800, which suits long dry stages and unsealed surfaces. Beyond it the T12 reaches 7 microns and 560 for genuinely extreme ground. It is a line rather than a ladder, and one trip on a bike like this can visit more than one point on it. Whichever is fitted, the airbox stays exactly as Yamaha built it.
Care and cleaning
Blow the PM198P14 through from the clean side, working outwards, and refit it dry. Without a compressor, lukewarm water with a mild detergent does the job as well; rinse until the water runs clear and let the element dry fully in air — never with heat and never near a flame, however convenient a hot afternoon looks.
