What actually governs how a Street Twin breathes is a line rather than a point: the way intake restriction behaves across the whole distance between one service and the next. The Sprint Filter P14 PM174P14 has an honest complication in that respect. It is the fine medium of the range, holding particles at 14 microns where the standard P08 works at 80, and it passes less air by design — 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050. A finer medium also fills up sooner. The reason that is defensible is the same reason it is worth owning: you can put it back where it started, with an air line, as often as you want to.
Key Features
- 14 microns of retention against an air flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Washable and reusable, so the restriction is restored rather than bought again
- The filtering surface is around double what other performance filters manage
- Dry non-woven medium, no oil in it — no film that can travel onto sensors or throttle bodies
- A direct swap in the standard airbox: nothing modified, nothing remapped, homologation untouched
- Two years of warranty from purchase, on an element specified for the motorcycle's life
The shape of the curve, not the height of the point
A cellulose element has one direction of travel. It leaves the box clean, its restriction rises as it collects, and it never comes back — the only way down is a new part. A washable element climbs too, and being finer it climbs sooner than an 80-micron medium would, but every time it is blown through it drops back to where it began. Over a year of riding the picture is not one long rise but a row of short ones, and the useful consequence is that the state of the intake stops depending on when the next service happens to fall.
Why this is the machine in the family that earns it
The Street Twin is the everyday member of this airbox family, and it is usually the one with the highest annual distance. An element ages by the volume of air that has passed through it, not by the date on the invoice, so the bike that rides most is the bike whose filter reaches the end of an interval first. It is also the one whose owner is least inclined to order a service part twice a year. Both facts point the same way: a part that is cleaned rather than bought. What it will not do is make the bike quicker. The gain is a finer barrier and a restriction that returns to its starting value on demand.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, and the PM174P14 goes back in dry. After a hard winter or a dusty summer, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Drying happens in open air and nowhere else: not with heat, not near a flame, and it goes back only when dry through. Oiling never enters into it. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Street Twin from 2016 to 2026. The same element covers five machines built on this airbox, which keeps it in production and easy to source across the model's long run. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
