The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The SS 450 has been in this listing since 2023, a year ahead of the other machines on the code, so it is the first of them to reach the second-hand market in any number. A used motorcycle is bought largely on assertions: the book says the service was done, the seller says it lived in a garage. The airbox is one of the very few places where an assertion can be tested in five minutes with a screwdriver, and what sits in there — along with the state it is in — is a fair summary of the air that engine has been living on.
Key Features
- Dry non-woven material working at 14 microns, for air carrying a real load
- Rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec, the figure conceded in exchange for the fine grade
- Never oiled, so a wash is the end of the job rather than the middle of it
- About double the filter area of the usual performance panel
- Direct replacement for the paper element in the standard SS 450 airbox
- Two-year warranty; built to stay with the motorcycle rather than to an interval
Evidence you can hold up to a light
A disposable panel tells you very little, because it is thrown away at the moment it becomes interesting and its successor has nothing to say yet. A washable element keeps its history instead, and whoever cleans it sees the whole of it each time. Fine pale dust means dry unsealed roads. A dark, even layer means traffic. Almost nothing after a full season means the air was cleaner than expected and the interval can be judged rather than assumed. None of that needs tools or expertise, only the habit of looking before deciding.
Both ends of an ownership
For someone keeping the machine, the fine medium is a decision about the second half of its life, when the odometer has stopped being a novelty and nobody counts the kilometres any more. For someone selling it on, a clean element in a clean box is the sort of small, checkable detail that makes the rest of a service history easier to believe. And for anyone reading listings, the honest limit travels along: a drop-in filter does not make a standard SS 450 noticeably faster, so an advertisement leading with power from an air filter is describing something else. What this part offers is intake restriction that returns to its starting point whenever the box is opened.
Care and cleaning
Blow the element through from its clean face outward, covering the whole panel rather than one spot; most services end there. When the material carries a film rather than dust, lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent will lift it; rinse thoroughly afterwards. Everything then hangs on the drying: air only, at room temperature, for as long as it takes, with no heat source near it, and no refitting until the PM270P14 is dry the whole way through. Its maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the CFMOTO SS 450 of 2023 to 2026, the longest span of the three 450-class models on this P14 code. The SS badge is also used on a 675, which draws through another housing and takes another element; check the year and the capacity in the Fitment tab before ordering.
