The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 820R is the naked sibling of the 820 RR, sharing its triple and chassis but built for the road, with a peak of 135 hp that arrives at 12,000 rpm. That peak is exactly where the P08 F1-85 does its work: high in the rev range, wide open, for long stretches. On a naked ridden on public roads those stretches are short, and knowing that is the starting point for deciding whether this element belongs in an 820R at all.
Key Features
- Dry polyester racing weave, 22 µm threads, rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Retention of 95.22 % at 100 microns, beside 93.13 % for the standard P08
- Described by Sprint Filter as the most used air filter in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock
- Fits the unmodified 820R airbox with no modification or remap
- Used dry, never oiled, and cleaned with compressed air
- Two-year warranty, specified for the life of the motorcycle
Three times the flow is not three times anything else
It is easy to read 15,000 against 5,050 as three times the performance. It is three times the flow capacity of the cloth, which is a different thing. A standard 820R asks for a set amount of air at each engine speed, and a clean P08 passes that comfortably across most of the rev range. The racing weave only changes the picture where demand is highest — held wide open near 12,000 rpm — and even there it reduces a restriction rather than adding anything. No element in an unmodified airbox makes a standard 820R stronger.
Where it belongs
On an 820R prepared for track days, cleaned after every hard session and perhaps with exhaust and mapping changed, the F1-85 is a coherent choice. On a naked used on the road it is not: the standard P08 retains nearly as much at 100 microns, washes in exactly the same way, and costs well under half as much as this element. The difference in price is paid in full; the difference in flow is only collected in the few seconds a road ride spends at the top of the rev range.
Care and cleaning
Clean PM291S F1-85 with an air line from the clean side outwards, and after a track day do it before the bike goes back on the road. Stubborn dirt comes out in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent, rinsed until clear. Dry it in moving air at room temperature, never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and refit it dry with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
