The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
It is easy to assume the step from the standard element to this one is the step from road riding to track days. It is not. The standard medium for this airbox is catalogued for road and track together, so a season of track days already sits inside the specification that comes as the default. What lies beyond it is competition, and competition is the setting the racing cloth was cut for.
Key Features
- Racing polyester, dry, threads from 22 µm, at a published 15,000 l/m²/sec
- The highest flow rate in the Sprint Filter range, and the racing option for this case
- 95.22 % retention on 100-micron particles against 93.13 % for the standard element
- Identical installation: series airbox, original position, no modification and no remap
- Dry construction with no oil at any point, cleaned with compressed air between outings
- Built to last the life of the machine, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Where the line actually falls
By Sprint Filter's own account its filters are the most widely used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That is a manufacturer statement rather than an independent measurement, and it is a fair description of where this medium belongs. The setting comes with habits attached: an air line in the garage, the case opened between sessions, an engine asked for everything it has for extended stretches. Those habits are what make the fastest-flowing weave in the catalogue a defensible choice, because frequent attention keeps its flow figure intact.
And on this machine
A road-registered ZT 155G SR does neither of those things, and the element already made for what it does do covers road and track alike. No drop-in filter makes a production motorcycle noticeably quicker, this code is listed at close to three times the standard one for the same case, and it is built for flow rather than for fine dust — if dust is the concern, the answer is at the opposite end of the range. The unglamorous benefit worth having, an intake restriction restored with compressed air instead of climbing until the part is binned, belongs to every element in this range, the standard one included.
Care and cleaning
Between outings an air line is enough: apply it to the clean side and work outward until the fabric runs clear. A film that will not blow off needs lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then rinsing until the water leaves clean. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature, with no heat gun, radiator or flame anywhere near it, and the SM276S F1-85 returns to the case dry.
