The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Of the three motorcycles that share this housing, the 703RR is the only one where a racing weave is even a reasonable question. The 703R ETC is a naked and the 703T ETC a tourer; the RR has the fairing, the riding position and the owners most likely to take it on a circuit. Sprint Filter lists the P08 F1-85 for all three, but only on this one does the listing line up with how the bike might actually be used. Even here it is a specification for a particular plan, not an upgrade for every RR.
Key Features
- Racing weave in dry polyester: 85 µm filtration and 15,000 l/m²/sec of flow
- 95.22 % retention on 100-micron particles, compared with 93.13 % for the P08
- Sprint Filter calls it the most used air filter in MotoGP, Moto3, WorldSBK, Supersport and Superstock
- Drops into the standard 703RR airbox with no modification and no remap
- No oil at any stage; cleaned with an air line between uses
- Built to last the life of the motorcycle, covered by a two-year warranty
What a track day asks of a filter
On a circuit the engine spends long stretches wide open near the top of its range, and that is the only state in which the F1-85's extra flow is drawn on. It is also the state in which dust, rubber and debris thrown up by other bikes reach the intake. A racing weave answers the first condition and asks the rider to manage the second: the element comes out after a hard session and is cleaned, not left until the next service. That discipline is part of what the part assumes, and without it the higher flow is not worth having.
Why most RRs should still run the P08
Nothing about this element makes a standard 703RR stronger, and no filter in an unmodified airbox does. Its advantage is capacity, and capacity only matters once the rest of the intake and exhaust have stopped being the limit. A road-going RR, or one that sees a couple of track days a year, gains nothing measurable from it, and the standard P08 retains nearly as much at 100 microns for a little under half the price. Buy this one as part of a build or a race season, not as a first modification.
Care and cleaning
Clean SM300S F1-85 with compressed air from the clean side outwards, and do it after every hard session on track. What air does not lift comes out in lukewarm water with a mild detergent; rinse until the water runs clear. Leave it to dry in moving air at room temperature — no heat gun, radiator or flame — and refit it dry, with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Zontes 703RR of 2025 and 2026. The same racing element is listed for the 703R ETC and 703T ETC of 2026, three machines in all, as the Fitment tab shows.
