The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The word Racing in this product name is a material specification. It comes out of the price list, where Sprint Filter uses it to separate this weave from the road one, and it would appear in the title of this element whichever machine it happened to be listed against. That the RR is the most track-oriented motorcycle on the list is two labels agreeing by accident, and an accident is not an argument. Whatever case exists for putting this weave in an RR has to be built out of what the cloth does, not out of what the two names have in common.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave of threads from 22 µm in diameter, with a quoted rate of 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Around three times the flow figure of the standard road weave for this housing
- Identical frame, fold and sealing face to the other three materials offered here
- Free of oil, so the element cannot contribute a film to the intake tract
- Fits the standard RR airbox exactly where the original panel sat
- Regenerated with compressed air; warranted for two years from purchase
Where the label comes from
The use case is derived from the material code, so P08 becomes road and track, the 14-micron nonwoven becomes dusty conditions, and this weave becomes racing — regardless of what is downstream of it. The price ordering is more informative than the name: in this family the racing weave is listed at more than twice the standard element and at over three times either of the fine materials, while the housing, fitting and installation are identical across all four. What the ratio pays for is cloth.
What the cloth actually offers
A far higher rate per square metre, from a different weave rather than a coarser one. The higher rate is only drawn on when everything downstream is asking for it, which on a road-registered machine is a narrow and brief set of moments; the weave behind it gave nothing away in the maker's 100-micron test, retaining 95.22 % to the standard cloth's 93.13 %. And whichever of the four is fitted, the outcome is the same in one respect: a drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger. The dependable return is a low starting restriction that is restored at each cleaning.
Care and cleaning
Servicing a PM190S F1-85 is a dry job. Apply compressed air to the clean side and work outward so the collected material leaves by the face that arrested it — that is a complete interval in most seasons. For a heavier or greasier load, lukewarm water with a mild detergent and a rinse until the water runs clear, then drying in circulating air for as long as it takes. Never with a heat gun, a hot surface or a flame, and never refitted damp. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR of 2021 to 2023, in the original airbox. The same code covers three motorcycles — the RR, the 1290 Super Duke R and the 1390 Super Duke R — with the year window for each shown in the Fitment tab. Since the RR takes the same element as the volume machine, order by code and build year rather than by the model name.
