Five model names on a single listing look like a sales grouping. They are not. Sprint Filter numbers its elements by airbox, and the Tiger 900, the GT, the Rally and both Pro versions share one. That carries a consequence catalogues rarely spell out: every figure printed against a filter medium is expressed per square metre. The cloth supplies the rate. The motorcycle supplies the area. The PM214S is where the two meet.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave in a single layer, 80 µm aperture, thread diameters from 22 microns up
- Rated flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec, the standard specification for mixed road and track use
- Never oiled: the element stays dry, and so does everything downstream of it
- Around double the filtering surface of other performance elements inside the same housing
- Exchanges directly for the series panel, leaving airbox and calibration untouched
- Cleaned and put back, designed to last the motorcycle, two-year warranty
Rate multiplied by area
A medium's rating describes how much air one square metre of it will pass in a second. It says nothing about how many square metres stand in the stream, and that was settled by the engineer who drew the housing years before anyone thought about filters. The Tiger's box is a generous one, which is much of why the standard weave copes with everything this machine is normally asked to do. Sprint Filter's contribution to the area side is the pleating: about double the filtering surface of other performance elements in the same box, for the same opening.
What that means when comparing filters
It means the comparison holds only within one motorcycle. Standard weave against the dust and off-road media on this Tiger is a real choice with real consequences, because all of them sit in the same housing with the same area available, and a finer medium always buys its extra retention with flow. Carry the same figures across to a different bike and they tell you nothing, because the area has changed underneath them. It also explains one part number covering five names: Triumph separated these machines by wheels, suspension and electronics, none of it upstream of the element. The honest limit stays where it always is — a panel filter does not make a standard Tiger 900 noticeably stronger. It gives it a low intake resistance that is restored at every cleaning rather than used up.
Care and cleaning
Servicing means an air line held to the clean side, driving the dust out through the face that collected it. Water is the exception, not the routine: lukewarm with a mild detergent when a season of spray has left a film, rinsed until it runs clear. Dry it in moving air only, never with heat and never over a flame, and refit it dry. There is no oiling step to remember. Full instructions sit in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Covers the Triumph Tiger 900 and its GT, Rally, GT Pro and Rally Pro versions from 2020 to 2026. One further listing shares this element, the Tiger Sport 850 of 2021 to 2024. Names in this family changed while the airbox did not, so check yours in the Fitment tab.
