The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Strip a Dragster RR back to what actually distinguishes it and the list is short and consistent: a wide rear tyre, a shortened tail, wheels, suspension and calibration. Every one of those things sits behind the engine or beneath the rider. Nothing on the list is ahead of the throttle bodies, which is why the Dragster RR takes precisely the same air filter as a 2011 Brutale 675 — CM135S, unchanged across eleven machines.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester; no oil is used, so nothing migrates towards the sensors
- About double the filtering surface of other performance filters
- 80 µm aperture with a rated throughput of 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Threads from ø 22 microns — a woven mesh, not a felted paper mat
- Exchanges directly for the factory panel: no cutting, no repositioning, no remapping
- Washable, reusable and warranted for two years
A plain inventory
Being exact about what changes when this element goes in is worth the paragraph, because a good deal of intake marketing is not. Unchanged: airbox volume, intake ducting, throttle bodies, injectors, the fuelling map, and the noise approval the bike was type-tested with. Changed: the medium the air passes through on its way in, and with it the pressure the engine must pull to get that air. That is the whole of it. The bike becomes no faster in any way a rider can detect, and the specification it leaves the shed with is still the one MV signed off.
Restriction is not a fixed toll
Pressure drop across a filter rises with the volume going through it, so the penalty of a partly loaded element is smallest exactly where a Dragster spends most of its time — small throttle openings between town junctions — and largest in the short hard bursts the bike exists for. That is the awkward part of an ordinary maintenance schedule: the moments when you might notice are too brief and too rare to prompt anyone to open the airbox. An element cleaned instead of replaced removes the calculation, because keeping it near its starting condition costs an air line and ten minutes.
Care and cleaning
Present the clean side to a compressed air line and drive the dust outwards, opposite to the airflow when fitted. That alone is the routine service. When air is no longer enough, wash in tepid water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water carries nothing away with it. Let it dry completely in air — never on a radiator, never with a heat gun, never near a flame — and refit it dry, with nothing applied to the weave.
