The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Selling a motorcycle from a marque most buyers have only read about is an exercise in reassurance. Whoever comes to look at a Super Scrambler will not have owned one, will not know anybody who has, and will be trying to work out from a folder of paperwork whether the previous decade treated it kindly. With so little else to go on, everything that can be demonstrated carries unusual weight — and the intake is where demonstration is hardest.
Key Features
- Evidence you can show rather than describe: a clean panel, visible on the spot
- Stays with the motorcycle when it changes hands, still serviceable
- Dry polyester at an 80-micron aperture, no oil involved at any stage
- Roughly twice the filtering area of a conventional performance element
- Fitted in the standard airbox with nothing altered and no remap
- Two years of manufacturer cover, running from the original purchase
The part no viewing ever reaches
A buyer can judge tyres, sprockets, fork seals and the stamps in a service book. Nobody removes a seat and an airbox lid in a stranger's garage, so the condition of the filter comes down to whichever receipt happens to be in the folder. On a low-volume marque those are precisely the receipts most likely to be absent, because the part was awkward to source in the first place and may well have been fitted by whoever could get hold of one. The result is a gap in the history exactly where a cautious buyer would most like certainty.
Maintenance that documents itself
A washable panel changes what the evidence looks like. Because the CM170S is cleaned rather than consumed, a clean element is not proof of a recent purchase but proof of an owner who opened the airbox — and unlike a receipt, it can be produced during the viewing. The next owner inherits a component built to last the life of the motorcycle rather than an unknown number of kilometres on a cartridge nobody can date. For a marque whose resale rests almost entirely on how well the last person looked after it, that is worth more than It is not a performance part and should never be presented as one: what it documents is care, not horsepower.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean face, directed outwards, handles the normal intervals. For a deeper clean use lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsing until the water finally runs without colour. Let it dry through completely in still room air, keeping radiators, hot-air guns, exhausts and flames away from it entirely — heat spoils the weave and leaves nothing for a later inspection to find. Refit it dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's own instructions are attached under Downloads.
