The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a motorcycle sold over a decade almost nothing survives in original condition. Plastics fade, bearings develop play, the exhaust dulls, and every wear part is somewhere along its own curve. The air filter is the exception, and only because it is washable: a PM155S taken out of a nine-year-old Super Duke GT and cleaned properly is not a restored part, it is the same part in the same condition it was in when it was new.
Key Features
- Returns to its original flow condition by cleaning rather than by replacement
- Dry polyester at 80 microns; the weave holds its dimensions through years of handling
- Roughly twice the filtering area of other performance elements for this airbox
- Standard fit under the series lid, with no modification and no remapping
- Serviced with compressed air, and with water only when the load demands it
- Two years of warranty, counted from purchase
Why cleaning is a full restoration here
A dry weave holds dirt on and among its threads without absorbing anything into the material itself. Nothing swells, nothing dissolves, and after washing nothing is left behind but the polyester that was there at the start. That is not true of a paper panel, whose fibres take up moisture and whose pleats take a set, and it is only partly true of an oiled cotton element, where the treatment has to be stripped and replaced and where the result depends on how well that was judged. This medium contains no judgement call.
What that means for a long-lived model
The GT has been catalogued on this element since 2016, which covers several distinct versions of the motorcycle. The used market for it now spans everything from nearly new to genuinely tired. Whatever else a particular example needs, the induction side is one item that can be brought fully up to date in an afternoon and without a parts order. To be plain about the limits: doing so recovers nothing that was lost elsewhere and adds no power to a standard engine. It restores the one component whose condition is entirely reversible.
Care and cleaning
Blow the panel through from the clean face outwards; that is the routine service and it needs nothing else. For a heavily loaded element, hand-wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, then let it dry in moving air — never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and never refitted damp. The illustrated maintenance sheet is one of the files in the Downloads tab, and no stage of the process involves oil.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the KTM 1290 Super Duke GT from 2016 to 2026. Twelve other KTM and Husqvarna machines share this element, each shown with its own production years in the Fitment tab.
