The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Here is the whole ledger for this part, with nothing left off. What changes when a PM155S goes into the standard airbox: the intake restriction becomes slightly lower and, more to the point, stays where it is between services, and one recurring consumable leaves the maintenance schedule. What does not change: peak output, fuel consumption in any way you could measure on the road, the service intervals for everything else, and the sound of the motorcycle. That is the complete list.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave, 80-micron filtration, no oil in its entire service life
- Filtering area roughly double that of other performance elements for this box
- Same outline and sealing frame as the standard panel: no modification, no remap
- Restored to condition by cleaning rather than replaced at intervals
- Two years of warranty, counted from purchase
- Intended to remain in the motorcycle for as long as the motorcycle exists
The entry on the left-hand side
A paper element leaves the factory at its best and gets worse from the first ride. It is designed around that fact: the interval is set so the worst state it reaches is still acceptable. A washable weave is designed around the opposite idea. It is returned to its starting condition whenever you choose, so instead of a slow decline between services you get a flat line with occasional resets. On a bike used across seasons and continents, the flat line is the useful property.
The entry on the right-hand side
What the element does not do deserves the same clarity. No filter fitted inside an unmodified airbox makes a standard motorcycle noticeably more powerful; the restriction difference is small, and for almost all of the time the throttle is the limit anyway. It does not change how the bike is calibrated, it involves altering the airbox in no way at all, and it neither shortens nor lengthens any other service item. Anyone selling it on the strength of horsepower is selling something else.
Care and cleaning
Cleaning is compressed air on the clean face, worked outwards, and that is usually the end of it. When the panel needs more, warm water with a mild detergent will lift what remains; rinse it out, then let it dry in moving air with nothing hot anywhere near it, and refit it only when it is completely dry. The illustrated maintenance sheet sits in this page's Downloads tab. Nothing gets oiled, before or after.
Fitment & Compatibility
