The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
KTM has sold an Adventure at 250, 390, 790, 890, 1050, 1090, 1190 and 1290, and several of those overlap in the showroom and on the used market. The model name alone is not enough to order an air filter by. The 1050 Adventure of 2015 and 2016 takes the PM155S — the same element as its larger relatives of that era, and a different one from the small singles that also wear the name.
Key Features
- The correct element for the 1050 specifically; the small Adventure models use another code
- Dry polyester medium rated at 80 microns, never oiled
- Filter area roughly twice that of other performance panels of the same dimensions
- Fits the standard airbox with no modification and no fuelling change
- Cleaned with compressed air and reused for as long as the bike is on the road
- Two years of warranty, counted from purchase
Reading the catalogue rather than the badge
Two things pin a filter down: the displacement and the build year. On this platform the 1050, 1090 and 1190 all take the same element, as do the 1290 Super Adventure variants and the 790 and 890 that followed — the box carried across a long period and a lot of engines. The smaller Adventure models are a different motorcycle with a different box entirely. If you are ordering from memory, the displacement is the word to get right; the name on the tank is the one that will mislead you.
The check that settles it
When the paperwork is ambiguous the panel itself is not. Take the old element out and set the two side by side: outline, depth, the position and shape of the sealing frame. A filter that matches a box matches it obviously, and one that does not is obviously wrong long before it reaches the machine. That is a minute's work and it removes the whole question. It will tell you nothing about power, and nor will fitting it — no element inside a standard airbox changes what the engine makes. It tells you the part is right, which is the only thing in doubt.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is compressed air held against the clean face and worked outwards, so the load leaves the way it arrived. Water is reserved for elements that air will no longer clear: warm, mildly soapy, rinsed out completely, dried in moving air with no heat of any kind. It must be bone dry before it goes back. The illustrated maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab, and there is no oiling step anywhere in it.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the KTM 1050 Adventure and Adventure R of 2015 and 2016. The Fitment tab lists the twelve further KTM and Husqvarna machines that share this element, with the years each one was built.
