The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
There is a quiet piece of information in which filter media Sprint Filter offers for a given airbox, and the 450 RR is a good example of it. This airbox is catalogued with the standard road fabric, the fine dust mat and the racing medium — and no off-road medium at all. For a manufacturer whose name is attached to rally and enduro machinery, that omission is the clearest statement anyone has made about where this particular model is expected to spend its life. The SM261S is the element for that expectation.
Key Features
- Dry single-layer polyester fabric with an 80-micron filtration rating
- Rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road and circuit setting of the Sprint Filter range
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements in the same space
- Contains no oil at any point, so nothing can be carried forward into the intake
- Direct exchange for the original panel, no airbox modification and no remapping
- Cleaned rather than replaced, built to last the machine, two-year guarantee
Sealed surfaces, two kinds of dirt
A road-focused machine still eats plenty. Brake dust, tyre rubber, diesel soot and the general suspension of a busy road are all fine, all constant, and none of them look like the dust cloud people picture when they think of air filtration. That is why the standard medium here is not a compromise but a specification: 80 microns holds back what a road environment actually delivers, and the flow figure keeps the airbox from becoming the tightest point in the tract while it does. The engine sees the benefit as a resistance that does not creep upward through a service interval, which is the useful and unexciting truth about air filters. An element in the standard airbox does not make a standard 450 RR noticeably more powerful, and this listing will not pretend otherwise.
Track days without a parts order
The other half of the argument is practical. A machine used for occasional circuit days collects a season's worth of dirt in a handful of weekends, and the traditional response is a new panel each time. A washable element turns that into a job done in the paddock with borrowed compressed air, which means it gets done at the right moment rather than at the next scheduled service. Nothing needs treating, curing or drying before the bike goes back out.
Care and cleaning
The routine is short. Compressed air, applied to the clean side and directed outward, returns the fabric close to its original state; when the SM261S has taken on more than air will shift, warm water with a mild washing-up detergent and a thorough rinse will finish it. Let it dry in moving air, keep it away from heat guns and flames entirely, and refit it dry with no oil. The maintenance instructions live in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Fits the Kove 450 RR built from 2023 to 2026, in the standard airbox. Two machines carry this element: the 450 RR and the ZXMoto 500RR of 2025 to 2026, which is listed in the Fitment tab alongside it.
