The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sprint Filter builds this housing in three cloths and no more: the standard 80 µm weave, a 14 µm nonwoven for dust, and a 7 µm mat for the extreme end. What is missing is the interesting part. Other Ducati cases in the range carry a racing weave above the standard one, the F1-85 cloth, built to pass far more air. CM61 has none. For a Scrambler 800 that settles a question before it is asked: the CM61S is the most open medium anyone makes for this airbox, and there is nothing further up the ladder to wonder about.
Key Features
- Polyester fabric used completely dry, with nothing applied to it before or after washing
- Close to double the filtering area of a typical performance element
- 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec — flow and retention are a trade, never a ranking
- Drops into the standard airbox as a straight swap for the factory panel; no remap, no adapter
- Washed and put back rather than binned; built to see out the motorcycle
- Backed for two years from purchase
Nine model years on one part number
The 803 cc air-cooled twin ran from 2015 to 2023 with its intake unchanged throughout, and this code covers every one of those years. Ducati splits part numbers by capacity elsewhere in the range; here the case stayed put while the bike around it collected new colours, new names and new trim levels. That is useful a decade later, when a code shared by twenty-four machines is still stocked and a model-specific one might not be.
What it will and will not do
A Scrambler is modified more often than most Ducatis, so it is worth being plain. This is not an intake modification. It does not add power you can feel on a standard engine, it does not change the induction noise, and it leaves the airbox sealed exactly as it was. The gain is a lower resistance to begin with, one that holds its value between services instead of creeping upward as a paper panel fills.
Care and cleaning
Cleaning the CM61S is a five-minute job. Blow it through backwards with compressed air, driving the dirt out the way it came. Heavier deposits come off in hand-warm water with a little neutral soap; rinse until nothing cloudy comes away, then stand it on edge in moving air until dry. Nothing warm may be used to hurry that along, and certainly no flame. Refit it dry — the P08 is never oiled. The maintenance leaflet is filed under Downloads.
