Every other Ducati in the Sprint Filter programme breathes through two cylinders or four. The Hypermotard 698 Mono breathes through one. A single takes its entire charge in one event every second revolution, so what reaches the airbox is a run of gulps with quiet gaps between them rather than a steady draw. PM263S is the P08 panel drawn for that box, and what answers a pulsating demand is less the figure on the datasheet than the amount of cloth standing behind it.

Why the amount of cloth is the interesting figure
A flow rating is taken across a square metre of medium under steady conditions. That compares materials fairly and describes an airbox poorly. Engines ask in bursts, and a single asks in the largest bursts of all. Sprint Filter answers with geometry rather than a looser weave: the 80 µm cloth is the same specification used across the road and track range, and what differs between applications is how much of it is present. Here that comes to about double the working surface of an ordinary performance element.
What the swap is not
It is not a power part. Intake, injection and exhaust were developed and homologated as one piece of engineering with a filter in the middle of them, and putting a different element into an unmodified airbox does not make a standard 698 Mono noticeably stronger. What changes is one maintenance item. A paper panel is at its most open the day it goes in and closes from there until somebody throws it out; this one is returned to its starting condition with an air line, as often as the owner cares to.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean face outward is the whole routine — the load leaves by the route it arrived on and the weave is left as it was. Where a ride has left a film air will not lift, hand-warm water with a little mild detergent will, flushed until the run-off is clear. Drying then happens in moving air at room temperature and nothing warmer: a hot-air gun, a radiator or a flame finishes this polyester before anything looks wrong.
