What the Box Actually Does

A pre-silencer is not decoration and it is not only a catalyst housing. It is the first expansion chamber in the system: the exhaust pulse arrives as a sharp pressure front, the volume of the box lets it expand and lose energy, and what reaches the silencer behind is already much less violent.

That is why a system built this way can run an open racing silencer and still meet a road standard. The box has done the difficult part. Spark makes it in AISI 304 with a very thin wall, produced with current tooling, so the acoustic volume does not arrive as a weight penalty.

Why Black, on This Bike

On a faired motorcycle the pre-silencer never sees daylight. On a Street Triple it does — the frame is open, the tail is short, and the box sits under the seat where the eye goes.

Bare stainless in that position turns blue-brown after a season of heat cycles. A baked ceramic layer stays the colour it started, and unlike high-temperature paint it does not lift at the edges. A hundred and forty euros over the bare-box version buys a component that still looks deliberate after two years.

It Is Not the End of the Range

Spark planned this kit to be changed later. Fit it now for a road-legal exhaust; if the bike becomes a track bike, the GTR0501R titanium racing link pipe replaces the box and the Grid-O carries straight over.

That is worth knowing before you compare prices with the racing kit GTR0501T. The two routes end at the same place, and this one is legal on the way.

Fitment & Compatibility

Triumph Street Triple, 2017 through 2026 — the 660 S and the 765 R, RS and S. With the bare stainless box it is GTR0507TOM. The racing version is GTR0501T, the racing link pipe alone GTR0501R. On MY24-26 machines the SKIT112 mounting kit is required.

Road Approval

Homologated. Spark states full compliance with Euro 4 regulations, with the catalytic converter inside the box. Whether that covers your motorcycle depends on the class it was registered under.
