Without a dB Killer
Spark states its aim for this range plainly: to deliver maximum performance and respect the noise limits without dB killers. That phrase carries more weight than it looks.
A removable baffle is the usual way an exhaust manufacturer squares a loud product with a circuit's noise policy, and it works — but it is also a plug that scrutineers can see, that riders forget, and that costs power in exactly the place they paid for it. A silencer that measures inside the limit with nothing in it is a different proposition: the reading you take in the paddock is the reading you ride with.
Why Stainless Here
The manifold in this kit is AISI stainless rather than titanium, and it is the reason the kit costs noticeably less than the otherwise identical GYA8882T. The silencer is titanium either way.
On a 3/4 system the manifold is a length of pipe under the engine that nobody sees, takes stone chips from the front wheel and gets pressure-washed after every wet session. Titanium there buys you around nine hundred grams and a material that scratches more visibly. If the bike is not chasing a class weight limit, stainless is the sober choice and the money is better spent on the silencer you actually want.
Installation
The standard headers stay in the fairing; only the section from the collector back is replaced. Spark lists this kit as compatible with the passenger footrests, so the pillion seat remains usable. Keep the standard mid-section and catalytic converter — refitting them is the only route back to a road-legal exhaust. The Spark installation sheet is under Downloads on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Yamaha R1 and R1M, 2015 through 2025. The manifold on its own is GYA8878; the titanium version of this kit is GYA8882T. The 400 mm Force silencer group with dB killer for this diameter is G00SI38T.
Road Approval
None. The catalytic converter is removed, which ends road legality however quiet the silencer measures. Closed circuits only.
