Sidi calls this part the Xfire metatarsus insert, Xfire being the short form of Crossfire. The metatarsus is the midfoot, the long bones between ankle and toes, and on a motocross boot it sits right where the footpeg and the bike's frame can strike. This hard plastic insert, position 60 on the Sidi chart, is the protective piece for that zone.

Protection Over the Midfoot
The top of the foot is easy to injure if a peg or another rider's bike comes down on it. An insert in this area adds a rigid layer that spreads such a blow. If it has cracked, it can no longer do that job properly.
