DescriptionThe whole story▼
Red is the colour many motocross riders already wear, and the Sidi Gravix Smoke in Red/Black/Grey slots straight into that kit. It is a 118-gram goggle with a grey Category 1 lens, an anti-fog coating and adjustable outriggers that help it sit square on the helmet.
Key Features
- Total weight 118 grams
- Grey smoke lens rated Category 1
- Anti-fog layer on the lens
- Surface treated against scratches
- Anti-intrusion frame, reinforced lens (per Sidi)
- Dual-density foam padding
- Adjustable outriggers
- Red frame and strap, black nose bridge
Frame Construction
Sidi builds the frame to an anti-intrusion concept, meant to block dirt and small debris at the edges, and describes the lens as reinforced against impacts. The material mix is 45 percent TPU and 25 percent polycarbonate, completed by 15 percent PES, 12 percent PU foam and 3 percent silicone and other parts. The goggle is manufactured in China.
Padding and Moisture
A double layer of foam rests against your face. Sidi says it combines essential comfort with moisture management and a secure seal, which is the job the lining has to do once the pace rises and the sweat starts.
Seeing Through the Smoke Tint
This lens is grey and sits in Category 1. Going by the VLT table on sidi.com, that means between 43 and 79 percent of visible light passes through, a moderate tint that copes with bright spells as well as overcast phases. Sidi adds a scratch-resistant surface treatment and an anti-fog coating that is meant to keep misting down while you work hard on the bike.
Strap and Outriggers
The outriggers can be adjusted, letting the frame adapt to the shape of your helmet. Sidi reports more even pressure across the face and a balanced strap tension as a result. A silicone lining on the inside of the elastic strap keeps the goggle on the shell, even when the bike is kicking over braking bumps or leaving the lip of a jump.
Use and Service Life
The Gravix Smoke is made for motocross and off-road use. According to Sidi, several components are replaceable, which helps the goggle last through a season of riding; the exact list of spare parts is not given.
What You Should Know
We cannot name a safety standard, because Sidi's list does not include one for this goggle. Information about wearing it over prescription glasses and about tear-off compatibility is also missing. With a tinted lens you get less light than with a clear one, so a Category 0 lens (80 to 100 percent in Sidi's table) would be the brighter choice for dark days. The goggle is one size.
Colour
The frame and strap share a bright signal red, while the nose bridge below the lens is black and the outrigger clips are black too. White SIDI lettering runs large along the strap. The grey lens completes the name. Red holds its own against dirt, and the black lower section hides splashes, so this version keeps a tidier look after a muddy race than lighter colours do.
