Where the pivot section works
Motocross boots need to move forwards and backwards at the ankle while staying stiff sideways. The pivot section frames that hinge zone. It protects the mechanism against impacts and dirt and connects the lower and upper shell parts, so a cracked section can lead to play or noise in the joint.
